Marcelo Castelo

Tdj Internacional

Marcelo Castelo has been active in the tango world for more than two decades, with a career closely connected to milonga organization, teaching, and music selection. His experience as a Tdj, however, began even earlier: in the 1990s he started working as a nightclub Dj, developing from the outset a direct relationship with sound, the dance floor, and the way audiences respond to music.

With a degree in Systems and a technical background in electronics, he combines musical experience with a technological perspective that has strongly shaped his approach to the role of the Tdj. His work goes beyond repertoire selection: he pays particular attention to sound quality, room acoustics, dance-floor dynamics, and the interaction between music, dancers, and the physical environment.

After many years organizing milongas, his approach to musicalization is based on a simple principle: every milonga has its own identity, its own audience, and its own energy. Rather than relying on rigid formulas or a closed repertoire, he builds tandas designed to support the flow of the dance, balancing tradition, variety, and musical coherence.

For Marcelo, the Tdj is not simply the person who chooses the music, but someone who plays a key role in shaping the atmosphere of the milonga. Reading the floor, managing energy, creating contrast between tandas, and helping dancers connect emotionally with the music are all part of the same responsibility.

He currently directs the Tdj and musicalization seminars at the Instituto Argentino del Tango, where he presents an integrated approach to the craft, bringing together musical, technological, acoustic, and social criteria developed through decades of practical experience on the dance floor.
